The average life expectancy for the entire population dropped to 77.8 years, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control. The death toll in the US is more than 10 times higher than the number of Americans who died from influenza and pneumonia the year before the pandemic. At times, most notably during the third wave of cases, it spiked higher than both heart disease and cancer. The first wave in the spring began as most of the country went into lockdown and was followed by a second albeit less severe wave in the period from late summer to early autumn.
Permanent population – this refers to a population that is linked to a specific piece of territory on a permanent basis. In Western Sahara Advisory Opinion ICJ Rep 1975, 12, it was established that nomadic tribes qualified as a state, as they had links with the specific territory. The region is bounded to the north by Canada, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by Long Island Sound, and to the west by the state of New York. There are rivers and lakes, towering forests, mountain ranges with hiking and skiing trails, pastoral farmland and countryside, and dramatic rocky coastline and soft, sandy beaches. With great swathes of dry, land-locked plains, this is the place where gun-slinging cowboys swung saloon doors and gold prospectors tried their luck. Today the neon of Las Vegas lights up the desert night and visitors come to marvel at the drama of the region’s natural beauty in Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Sedona and Zion National Park. The West Coast consists of the Pacific Coast states of California, Oregon and Washington and runs from the northern border with Canada to Mexico in the south. California is of course the sun-drenched home of Hollywood, as well as bohemian San Francisco, laid-back San Diego and Yosemite National Park. Whether you’re sipping margaritas on the surf beaches of SoCal or touring the vineyards of Napa Valley, California is a sun seekers paradise.
And it is quite difficult to compare repeatedly across spatial regions. The repeated measures do mean that some comparison is possible, and the strong trends for this data make things a little easier to see. In the U.S. case, administrative areas vary widely in geographical area and they also vary widely in population size.
