New Haven Police internet hosting nameless gun buyback occasion Saturday

NEW HAVEN — Police are shopping for again weapons from the general public — no questions requested.

The New Haven Police Division is internet hosting the gun buyback occasion Saturday on the New Haven Police Coaching Academy at 710 Sherman Parkway. The occasion will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On the gun buyback occasion, the general public can “eliminate undesirable or unsecured weapons anonymously and safely,” the police division stated in an announcement Tuesday.

“The purpose is to forestall weapons from falling into the mistaken palms, equivalent to these of kids, suicidal folks, perpetrators of home violence, and criminals,” Officer Scott Shumway stated in a press launch.

And the police division pays money for every gun it receives. Police pays out $150 for ghost weapons, assault rifles and sawed-off shotguns; $150 for handguns equivalent to revolvers or pistols; $50 for rifles, shotguns or Derringer-type weapons and $10 for BB weapons.

For gun house owners who need to maintain their firearms, free gun locks and a restricted variety of automobile safes will likely be supplied on the occasion.

Police stated the occasion is “100% nameless, no questions requested.”
