Person Who Admires German Canine
The year-old Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mix, littermate to our own dog, had jumped his owner’s fence and we’d gone in search of him. Samples from the dog were taken after it showed signs of respiratory illness. One of the dog’s owners tested positive for COVID-19, and another showed symptoms consistent with the virus, prior to the dog showing signs. A second dog in the household has shown no signs of illness; however, antibodies were also identified in that dog, suggesting exposure. They crafted an intro sign that was friendly and assuring which hung on the fence outside their house. It was only a matter of taking note of the sign that neighbors came in numbers to rekindle their friendship with the lovable pup.
Unfortunately for the breed, early breeding programs, especially out of Germany where breeding was very much controlled by the Society for the German Shepherd dog, did not selective breed for temperament. In some lines there is still more aggression than is typical within the breed, however reputable breeders have significantly improved the breed as a whole by breeding out this aggression. Within working lines, especially those dogs used for police, search and rescue and military work, intelligence, natural ability and controlled aggression is some of the most prized features of the breed. Poorly socialized or unsocialized German Shepherd Dogs can be very dog aggressive and are often associated with attacks on other dogs, especially between male dogs. This is more a factor of socialization and poor ownership rather than a negative comment on the breed.
They are also one of the most intelligent dog breeds around! These noble animals are simply one of the best and we need to paws and appreciate their beauty and silliness. Indeed, over 7,500 people attended Major’s “indoguration,” an event so big it landed singer Josh Groban as its musical act.
These schnauzers are full of energy and will be bouncing off your laps! Despite being just 12 inches tall, they certainly don’t know it. They’re fearless dogs that are surprisingly durable too. And just like their other size variants, Standards respond well to obedience training. They will be one of the most dependable and reliable German dogs when you need them.
German Pinschers can protect a family with their fearlessness, but can also be docile and gentle in the home. However they do have extremely high prey drive, thanks to their vermin hunting past, and require extensive socializing early on. After many of attempts, German breeder Baron Von Zediltz finally perfected the Pudelpointer breed 30 years later. The Pudelpointer is a skilled German hunting dog, developed with the old hunting Poodles and the English Pointer.
If you can keep them interested in training, they learn quickly. Irish Setters need to be groomed daily or every other day to keep their long, silky coats from becoming tangled. They are moderate shedders, so you will have some hair in your house, especially during shedding seasons. Irish Setters do very well with other animals and children. It is important, however, to properly socialize your puppy regardless of the breed’s temperament or your living situation.
So if you’re looking for a medium-sized German dog with a lively attitude and the upmost devotion, these dogs are worth a look. And if they pique your interest, I’d recommend taking a long hard look at the Pomeranian as well. These dogs are famously known for their nickname, the wiener dog. However, the original name of the hotdog was the dachshund sausage.
Injuries, illnesses, and fatalities resulting from encounters with dogs are a major public health concern worldwide. Dogs not only cause morbidity and mortality as a result of bites, but they may also transmit zoonotic infections, which may also result in illness or death. Dogs are the main source of rabies transmission to humans worldwide. It is estimated that 3% to 18% of dog bite wounds become infected, with occasional cases of meningitis, endocarditis, and septic shock leading to death reported. While socialization is important for this breed at an early age, they are very fast learners and do tend to generalize well. In other words if they are socialized with a house cat and get along well, the German Shepherd Dog is intelligent enough to understand they are supposed to leave other cats alone as well.
People tend to over generalize situations placing their beliefs/rules on every situation without thinking about the individual needs. What we don’t want is dogs left alone and no one to pay attention to them except for feeding them. You can use some important tips from this article to guide you when selecting a good German Shepherd puppy from a German Shepherd breeder or a dog shelter.
She was found, was wild, and we wondered if we could keep her. We eventually sent her to ‘boot camp” with a trainer who trained dogs for the local police. After two weeks, he and his staff decided she was “un-trainable”, stubborn, had a mind of her own. Long story short, she was the most loving, gentle, intelligent, beautiful dog ever, and we’ve always had shepherds. Yes, she had issues as she aged – two knee surgeries, laser treatments and acupuncture, a ton of vet bills. Despite all that, she was the best companion ever – traveled with us everywhere, felt safe driving cross-country with her.
When you live with an Irish Setter, you can be assured of having a happy, friendly companion who’s always ready to rock and roll. Two of these dogs don’t much care for the tractor-mower. I’ll bet you can guess which dog wouldn’t stop following me today. I always pray to be with my dogs if those last golden rays of light break through like that. We got our lovely girl from a high-kill shelter at 10 months old.
But believe it or not, these fluffy dogs were originally bred to protect property, which explains their territorial nature and alertness. Even so, expect the American Eskimo to be loving and affectionate when playing with family members. In the home, though, German Shepherds can be as loving as any other German dog. Because of the dog’s supreme loyalty, you can always count on a GSD to have your family’s back.
