Raoul Silva Actor
A former MI6 agent, he turns to cyberterrorism and begins targeting the agency he used to work for as part of a plan to get revenge against M, against whom he holds a homicidal grudge. But the actor who torments Daniel Craig’s 007 and Judy Dench’s M in the movie is now being cast as a different kind of villain by Spain’s ruling conservative People’s party . Sometimes to play the role of a crazy person, it is important to have gone through lots of trials and tribulations in your own personal life. Actor Mickey Rourke has definitely had several personal demons, and all those skeletons were put to mazing use in the harrowing yet poignant movie The Wrestler. He followed that movie up by playing a demented villain bent on revenge in the blockbuster Iron Man 2 – he was also pretty excellent in the Sin City movies playing a violent, ex-convict.
If Marvel Studios is looking for an older version of Magneto, Charles Dance is the answer. Having risen to fame for playing the role of Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, the similarities between Magneto and the Lannister patriarch are quite uncanny. Both care deeply about their family, would go to any extent to ensure their survival, and are terrifyingly menacing if the situation arises. Also, it would make sense to cast Charles Dance as Magneto if the MCU is going for a comic-book accurate portrayal, since Erik Lehnsherr is a Holocaust survivor. The track is called Skyfall itself and fits perfectly to the theme of the film. Skyfall has a brassy and soulful tune alongside the work of Shirley Bassey in the oeuvre of James Bond title tracks, reports Huffington Post.
It’s no surprise, then, that he played Emilio Largo inThunderball with such panache.Largo’s evil plan is to steal warheads and blackmail NATO into paying him a large sum of money, lest he start destroying major cities. Holder enjoyed a stellar career as an actor, dancer, musician, and artist, having already been aprincipal dancer for the Metropolitan Ballet before his film career began in 1957. He directed several Broadway productions, including The Wiz, for which he won two Tony Awards.
He is also, apparently, immortal — he appears at the end of the film, despite Bond having killed him previously. Before his Bond days, he played Von Stolberg in The Enemy Below and General Gunther Blumentritt in The Longest Day. Then, in 1977, Jürgens took up the Bond villain mantle in The Spy Who Loved Me, playing the villain Karl Stromberg.
In 2007, he won Best Supporting Actor for playing terrifying killer Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. The James Bond film franchise turned 50 this fall, and is commemorating the golden anniversary with the release of its 23rd film, Skyfall, out in American theaters Nov. 9. It’s a reverent homage to classic Bond while taking the franchise in a new direction. Fans get the closest thing yet to a 007 backstory, while the film brandishes an emotional through-line that fires as sharply as director Sam Mendes’s slick, explosive action sequences.
Waltz is the latest actor to play Ernst Stavro Blofeld, a recurring Bond villain played by five different actors over six decades. In this continuity, Blofeld is actually Bond’s adoptive brother, who believes Bond supplanted his position as favored son. Blofeld is the head of the global criminal organization SPECTRE, which is secretly responsible for the events of the previous three films.
Drax is an extremely wealthy businessman who owns a company that builds space shuttles.Being rich and powerful has clearly gone to Drax’s head, as he wants to wipe out humanity and restart society with a few selected humans. Using his spacecraft, he and his master race plan to orbit the planet until toxins kill everyone below. Krabbé went on to play many more famous villains, including Gianni Franco in The Punisher, Charles Nichols in The Fugitive, and even Satan himself in the 1999 TV movieJesus.
After a chase at the station near where M’s deposition is taking place, Silva is successfully able to evade Bond at the end of the chase by using his police radio to detonate an underground bomb that causes an incoming train to derail, almost crushing Bond. He then makes his way to the inquiry with a small number of henchmen , storming in and firing frantically at M but missing when Mallory takes the hit for her. He never actually manages to hit M, as he panics when Bond suddenly arrives, who kicks a gun over to Eve Moneypenny and allows her to join him returning fire. After Mallory joins them and they manage to shoot down the rest of Silva’s men, Bond shoots the room’s fire extinguishers, creating a smokescreen and allowing M to escape. He takes former prostitute Sévérine under his wing, but the merciful man she thinks he is, is really an illusion.
Bardem, too, might be a beautiful person, but apparently not while in his Silva persona. He joked that he looked so scary in the blond wig and makeup that he startled co-star Ralph Fiennes outside the makeup room. Bardem appreciates that his character was more physically menacing than physically active. “I was really drawn to Jaws, I have to say. I was 12 and I thought, ‘This guy’s such a nice guy, why is he playing a villain? I could tell that inside he was a beautiful person.” In one scene with Dench, Bardem said, he forgot his lines because it occurred to him that he was in “a James Bond movie.” But that was just the beginning of his nerves.
Over the course of the film, M’s ability to run MI6 is called into question, culminating in a public inquiry into her running of the service. Production of Skyfall was suspended throughout 2010 because of MGM’s financial troubles. Preproduction resumed following MGM’s exit from bankruptcy on 21 December 2010, and in January 2011, the film was officially given a release date of 9 November 2012 by MGM and the Broccoli family, with production scheduled to start in late 2011. Subsequently, MGM and Sony Pictures announced that the UK release date would be brought forward to 26 October 2012, two weeks ahead of the US release date, which remained scheduled for 9 November 2012. The film’s budget is estimated to have been between US$150 million and $200 million, compared to the $200 million spent on Quantum of Solace. Skyfall was part of year-long celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Dr. No and the Bond film series.
Although officially confirmed, his first name Raoul is never mentioned anywhere throughout the films but the reason for this is unknown. He is the first – and, to date, only – main villain in the reboot series to be killed by James Bond. (Le Chiffre was killed by Mr. White, Dominic Greene was killed by an assassin, Mr. White committed suicide, and Blofeld survived and is currently incarcerated). He is the fourth villain in the reboot series named after a colour (the first three being Mr. White, Edmund Slate and Dominic Greene), although his name is not exactly the same as “silver”.
Bond enters the game, hoping to prevent Le Chiffre from paying back his debtors and force him into seeking protection from MI6. Silva is ironically the first Bond villain to actually succeed in his goals, namely humiliating MI6 and killing M as revenge for abandoning him . Daniel Craigbonded with Javier Bardem on the set over their shared love of rugby. In his youth, Craig played for Hoylake Rugby Football Club in Wirral, Merseyside. Bardem played for Club de Rugby Liceo Francés in Madrid, and even made the Spanish national team at underage level. The fallen statue on Silva’s island is a reference to Percy Bysshe Shelley’s sonnet “Ozymandius”, which is about time defeating a once-mighty empire.
“He’s a peacock of a character, unlike anything Javier’s played before,” says Mendes. “Canny and witty and flirtatious in a disturbing way that even I didn’t expect.” The movie Silence of the Lambs based on the book by Thomas Harris is perhaps one of the most terrifying psycho-thrillers ever made. The reason the movie was so good is because Jodie Foster did a great job acting as a determined yet troubled FBI agent and Sir Anthony Hopkins was brilliant as the deranged, conniving and unpredictable cannibalistic killer Hannibal. To date, actors who have to play similar roles probably look up this movie to see how the masters do it.
