SF Restaurant Apologizes for Denying Service to Armed, On-Responsibility Police Officers – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — The homeowners of a restaurant in San Francisco’s North Seaside neighborhood apologized Sunday for asking cops to go away their eatery as a result of the officers’ weapons made workers uncomfortable.

In an announcement posted Sunday on social media, Hilda and Jesse homeowners Rachel Sillcocks and Kristina Liedags Compton stated “these are nerve-racking occasions and we dealt with this badly.”

Three officers have been requested to go away the brunch spot on Friday and the restaurant posted a proof on its Instagram channel Saturday that learn: “The restaurant is a protected house. The presence of the officers’ weapons within the restaurant made us really feel uncomfortable. We respect the San Francisco Police Division and are grateful for the work they do. We welcome them into the restaurant when they’re off obligation, out of uniform and with out their weapons.”

Outcry quickly adopted on social media, together with a response from San Francisco police chief William Scott, who stated his division “stands for security with respect, even when it means respecting needs that our officers and I discover discouraging and personally disappointing.”

The restaurant homeowners backtracked on Sunday with the apology on Instagram.

“We made a mistake and apologize for the unlucky incident on Friday after we requested members of the San Francisco Police Division to go away our restaurant,” stated Sillcocks and Liedags Compton. “We’re grateful to all members of the power who work arduous to maintain us protected, particularly throughout these difficult occasions.”

The incident drew feedback supporting each side. Some commenters have been clearly upset on the incident, calling it discriminatory and mentioning that if there have been to be an emergency the officers could be there to assist.

“How disrespectful and entitled of the enterprise to deal with individuals who danger their lives to guard us,” wrote one poster. “It’s a bit heartbreaking truly.”

Native resident John Perri agreed.

“So bummed this occurred in my neighborhood,” he posted. “By no means had the meals at this new restaurant. Nevertheless it couldn’t probably be ok to cowl the unhealthy style this leaves.”

Peter Schreyer had a differing viewpoint.

“It’s her restaurant she will be able to do what she needs,” he posted. “Who needs to be consuming lunch subsequent to somebody with a weapon.”
